Why Cushions & Throws Are Perfect For Seasonal Decorating

It’s with a tinge of sadness that we wave a hallowed goodbye to the glorious summer months. We’ve had some wonderful weather over the last few weeks and have thoroughly enjoyed soaking up all those warm sunny rays, but the start of a new season is also a chance to really welcome change with open arms - and what better way to mark the occasion than with a spot of interior design?

Transforming your home seasonally has fast become a really popular way to ring in the changes throughout the year but it can quickly become quite an expensive endeavour if you’re not careful, not to mention incredibly time-consuming… so it’s all about the quick wins when it comes to redecorating your home every three months or so.

Smaller home decor items really come into their own when it comes to decorating for spring, summer, autumn and winter, as they’re easy to swap in and out, and don’t take up much room when you want to store them away until it’s their turn to be used once again.

With autumn right around the corner, heavier fabrics are a good way to go, so if you’re wondering where to invest your money, look out for cushions and throws in the likes of wool and velvet, opting for darker, richer colours to really help create a cosy atmosphere throughout your home.

As the temperature drops, we’re sure to start spending more time inside over the coming weeks, so making sure your home environments are welcoming and inviting is certainly a good idea - and there’s nothing quite like curling up on the sofa beneath a thick warm blanket, with a cup of hot chocolate and your favourite series on the TV, is there?

If you’re looking for pattern inspiration, autumnal leaves, acorns, and check and tartan in browns, reds and navy blues would all work really well for decorating at this time of year. And any animal prints that feature owls, squirrels, stags and so on would also look lovely and have the added benefit of bridging the gap between autumn and winter decorating as well.

One top tip for seasonal decorating, however, is to make sure you don’t overdo it. Less is most certainly more when it comes to displaying seasonal items and you don’t want to create a lot of unnecessary clutter at home.

The key is to make sure that your interior design choices tie in well with the rest of your aesthetic decisions around the house so that your home remains both beautiful and functional, no matter what time of year it is. We’d love to hear what autumnal decorating ideas you have for your home, so get in touch to let us know.
